MTA Long Island Rail Road's Recovery Efforts 'Extremely Challenging'

Dec 27, 2010

Long Island Rail Road personnel were working in the cold to clear snow from the switches and tracks on Monday.

“However, high wind gusts and drifting snow are making the recovery efforts extremely challenging,” said an MTA emergency alert.

LIRR was suspended due to snowdrifts and switch problems in several locations on Sunday. The railroad remains suspended system-wide in both directions and will continue until “safe and reliable service” can be restored.

Long Island Bus service has also been suspended due to poor road conditions brought by the blizzard.
