Mammoth Mountain, a popular ski resort in California, received nine feet of new snow since Friday, prompting avalanche warnings. According to meteorologists, snow had piled up at Mammoth Mountain by Sunday and latest reports say that the snow is still coming down.
Mammoth Mountain Ski Resrt said it received nine feet of new snow at its peak elevation of 11,000 feet. The 8,000-foot level received about six and a half feet of snow, AccuWeather.com reported.
According to the Los Angeles Times, heavy snowfall in Mammouth Mountain ski areas prompted forecasters to issue back country avalanche warnings.
There was so much snow that Mammoth Mountain's Twitter page said measuring snow "in inches is *so* last week: we busted out the yardstick."
